SAS2 A Guide to Collaborative Inquiry and Social Engagement

A Guide to Collaborative Inquiry and Social Engagement

Social Analysis Systems2 (SAS2) represents a significant international effort to address central issues in the creation and mobilization of knowledge for social change. The guiding principle is that dialogue and collaborative inquiry have become crucial for local and global development. Humanity can no longer rely on solutions engineered by private interests and experts alone. Social issues must be addressed socially and the insights that emerge fully integrated into processes of knowledge production, planning, and decision-making.

Part 1 of the Guide outlines the concepts and 'skillful means' that form the basis of the SAS² contribution to action research. It also provides detailed guidelines to ground collaborative inquiry in the projects, plans and activities of multiple stakeholders.

Part 2 of the Guide presents a selection of tools for collaborative inquiry and and step-by-step instructions for stakeholder analysis, problem assessment and visioning. Examples are provided of action research in the Global South, with a focus on local economic development, environment, and project evaluation. To buy the book, visit www.sagepub.com.
