Participatory Action Research
SAS² concepts and tools have been applied and adapted to a wide range of settings, from natural resource management and workplace engagement to education, local governance, and conflict management around the globe.
The results of using SAS² range from better understanding and management of immediate problems to comprehensive plans based on in-depth assessments of complex situations. All attest to the relevance and meaningfulness of collaborative inquiry for social innovation and public engagement.
This page provides you with access to three collections of results in a Repository hosted by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC):
- Technique Reports on a single event or assessment of a problem, set of actors or options;
- Process Reports where a series of SAS² assessments over time contributed to a broader decision-making process;
- Guides and Plans for collaborative inquiry and social engagement adapted to particular contexts.
To find a document of interest to you, search the database using subject key words such as "Canada", "International Development", "Public Engagement", etc. The reports are also searchable by technique name (eg. "Causal Dynamics"), title, author, date and many other subject fields. Contact us if you would like to contribute examples of a SAS² collaborative inquiry to the Repository.
More detailed and personal accounts are available with the authors, and in A Guide to Collaborative Inquiry and Social Engagement, published in book form and online by SAGE Publications and IDRC. The Proceedings of Celebrating Dialogue: An International SAS2 Forum, also contains many examples of SAS2 results.
