SAS2 Process Management
Process Management (PMt) (PDF document, 124 KB) is the point of entry and practical grounding of the social analysis and all-purpose techniques of SAS². It is an approach to planning and managing single events or a series of events organized into real-life projects.
The PMt approach offers an alternative to the linear model of Results-Based Management (RBM) where the focus is on fixed goals and detailed plans made at the outset. By contrast, PMt is for planning in complex situations of relative chaos characterized by the unexpected and the unknown.
PMt is supported by a collaborative planning and management tool called Process Manager (PMr) (PDF document, 612 KB). This tool supports a process of continuous planning in situations that are not fully predictable. With PMr, some actions and analyses may be planned in advance while other plans are made along the way in light of unforeseen events and new information. This approach allows you to make full use of SAS² in complex situations where you have incomplete knowledge of the key factors and their future behavior.
The Guidelines to Event and Process Design (PDF document, 286 KB) show how to design and facilitate SAS² assessments in the context of ongoing project plans and activities. The Guidelines provide step-by-step instructions on how to select, sequence and scale techniques to meet a group’s specific needs and how to report on results. They also suggest ways to combine SAS² techniques with other forms of inquiry.
